Ibiza Music Island
Space Ibiza joins IMI, a project that’s looking to re-launch Ibiza as the capital of musical innovation
175 million Euros, over 2.500 people working directly or indirectly in music and more than 150 creators are enough reasons to launch Ibiza as the finest and greatest music location.
In this context and supported by the Spanish Government, IBIZA MUSIC ISLAND (IMI) is born, a cluster that will work to consolidate Ibiza as the capital of musical innovation.
DJs, radio stations, producers, clubs, record labels… All kind of professional, business and public institutions are able to be part of IMI. An open-minded and very innovative project that will contribute to transform the tourism concept of Ibiza by changing its productive structure; a musical structure that won’t consume territory and also be an added value.
So then, reinventing the island together with the knowledge and experience of many years living for music is the base of a project that’s very welcome to the island to everyone that has something to say in music industry.
Space Ibiza has joined the IMI as one of most prestigious and solid clubs of all five continents.
IMI was launched last May and one of its biggest goals is to create the Ibiza Music School.

Ibiza Jazz’09
This August the island celebrates Ibiza Jazz’09 with Niño Josele, Tineke Postma and Joachim Kühn
German pianist Joachim Kühn, ex partner of Ornette Coleman and a reference to the avandgarde European jazz, will kick off the Ibiza Jazz 2009, on 26th and 27th of August at the bastion of Santa Lucia, in old town: Dalt Vila.
Kühn will be launching ‘Out of the Desert’, his last work, inspired by gnauas brotherhood of Morocco; also the Tineke Postma’s quartet, a Holland young saxophonist turned into one of the biggest jazz’s sensations in Europe thanks to works like ‘A journey that matters’.
Jazz Ibiza also brings Niño Josele, habitual Paco de Lucía’s collaborator. People say about the guitarist from Almería “his heart pumps as much flamenco blood as jazz blood. ‘Paz’, his latest work, is a good example of this, such tribute to pianist and musical sensibility of Hill Evans, produced by Fernando Trueba and Javier Limón and shared with artists like Joe Lovano, Tom Harrell, Jerry González and Marc Johnson”.
The closing will be performed by the American septet The Goleen Gospel Singers.
All this will be at Ibiza Jazz, a festival with history that this year will be dedicated to the Latin and European jazz schools, plus the Spanish and Balearic ones, where this genre has many, many, followers.

A safe party
For the fifth consecutive year, Space Ibiza will have a Professional Nursing Service
Space Ibiza, a club that is always visionary, is also a club that is committed and responsible, as demonstrated by providing a service to its existing nursing professionals, thus becoming the first club in the Balearic Islands, and probably also in Spain that provides health care in a fun environment.
The project started in 2005 in collaboration with Andres García, director for the last two years of Emergency Staff. The purpose was to respond swiftly, and immediately should any unforeseen emergency event occur, ensuring the comfort and welfare of all guests. Why have to go home for a slight nuisance caused by new shoes, when with a plaster at hand on site, you can say goodbye to the problem and continue to enjoy your evening?
Similarly, since the service avoids unnecessary travel to health centres on the island, Space Ibiza is helping to alleviate the activity of some places which are overworked in the summer season because of a growing population, that now reaches point multiply by 10, and consequently, to reduce public spending on public health.
The Professional Nursing Service will again be operating in 2009 and enjoys first class facilities. Empowered to professional effect, the tent has a bathroom and air conditioning, a stretcher-art defibrillator, plus a diploma in Nursing, the only people authorized to use the machine, since the automated law which was enforced in late 2008.
A novel and effective project, now subsequently exported to other dance halls on the island, with Space Ibiza once again demonstrating why it is the best club in the world.
Hospital campaign
In late 2007 Space Ibiza donated to The Red Cross a field hospital, a facility that is useful for the island as the director of the NGO, Rafael Garcia.
This is a fast inflatable installation (in 7 minutes), equipped with six boxes equipped with good health care. Since its donation, the field hospital has been used in several cultural and sporting events that have taken place on the island, three emergency drills.
"We are very grateful to Space Ibiza for an altruistic action that benefits everyone. The hospital has been in the last two editions of Eivissa Medieval and Sample Solidarias Entities in the latter event as a hospital for blood collection. It has also been available to the last of the Salt Route and has been used in a fire drill conducted by the Forestry Department of Emergency and two traffic accidents carried out by firefighters in Ibiza San tunnels San Rafael and figures, "explains the director of Red Cross”.
The hospital will re-settle in the opening party of Space Ibiza, on May 31, until the closure of the 2009 season, on October 4.

Space Ibiza & DJ Top 100 Clubs'09
DJ MAG has published ‘DJMAG Top 100 Clubs 2009’ and Space Ibiza gest back to win keeping the third position in the prestigious ranking. An absolutely honour for the Club.
There is still no club in the world quite like Ibiza's Space. A sprawling temple of hedonism, its labyrinth layout never fails to command both shock and awe in those navigating it for the first time with six separate arenas all offering their own distinct vibes. Recent additions like the intimate club confines of La Caja Roja (the Red Box), the al fresco vibes of La Premier Etage and El Salon's reclining Balearic lounge are all blessed with charm and style, but it is undoubtedly the twin bastions of Le Terrazza and Le Discoteca that drive the club.
A vast centrepiece that James Zabiela once described as “a journey to the centre of the Earth”, the combustible explosions that bear witness in the engulfing 2000-capacity main room - Le Discoteca - are as routinely ecstatic as any club on the planet.
Admittedly, the open-air raving of the old terrace may exist in folklore alone, but the partly covered Sunset Terrace remains a smile-populated vestige to the original Ibiza experience, whilst the new terrace - Le Terrazza - has carved a legend of its own thanks to impeccable programming and a crystal clear Funktion One soundsystem.
Nights like Tuesday's Carl Cox & Friends remain island favourites but it is undoubtedly the venue's Sunday flagship - We Love - that has left the biggest impression on the island's musical landscape over the past decade. Each one a mini-festival in its own right, Jeff Mills, Laurent Garnier, 2Many DJs, Marky, Chip and even The Chemical Brothers played We Love's diverse 16-hour marathon at some point last season.
Indeed, as We Love resident Paul Woolford puts it, everybody in clubland seems to have a story from Space - be it an eternally unforgettable dancefloor experience, a chance meeting or an impossibly debauched clubbing marathon. The terrace is renowned for being the place where people inexplicably meet their long lost best mate from primary school or future wife/husband, whilst the venue as a whole remains one of the few where DJs themselves routinely get lost in the hedonistic abandon of the party.
Carl Cox describes it as “the Roll's Royce of clubbing”, whilst both Yousef and Steve Lawler claim to have enjoyed just as many epic nights at Space as clubbers as DJs.
”Space is a club that has seen so many late nights that you'd be hard pressed to find any real clubber who doesn't have some hazy memories of its madness burnt into their synapses”, confirms Paul Woolford.
”People from all walks of life and musical preferences find themselves here at some point each summer and this gives the night an unexpected air, as you never know who you might bump into”.
”As for how it feels to play there, when everything's right there is nothing like it. It's an incredible club with killer sound, lovely staff and an unbeatable vibe”. Celebrating an impressive 20 years this summer, Space remains the jewel in the crown of acid house's original clubbing Mecca.

Space: Best Spanish Club
Yet again Space starts the new year with another accolade: ‘Best Spanish Club 2008’ awarded by Deejay mags. Space´s track record seems to grow and grow every year including four trophies in five years like ‘Best global club’
These awards are understood and accepted with gratitude from the directors and staff of Space, who realise that they are the result of hard work and passion for the industry. "I would like to specify we have never looked for these recognitions. We have a musical, commercial and social line respected in all moments. When you work in a project, looking forward to guess trends and the public’s desires, giving your best and getting excited, then results like this may arrive", said Pepe Roselló, Space owner and founder, in an interview realised some time ago.
Space represents music. It’s a club who likes risks and innovation, always in the avant-garde, just what readers of this official dance magazine and clubbers alike, feel and believe which showed last 4th of February in the evening during the celebrations in Teatro Kapital, in Madrid.
The award ceremony, sponsored by Ron Barceló and Pioneer, was packed with numerous known faces of the international electronic scene. Good music, good fun, other winners included: Cristian Valera, ‘Best Techno DJ’ and Wally López, ‘Best Techno House DJ’. A vibrant edition where Ibiza was also awarded for one of its great independent radio stations: Ibiza Global Radio.
So then, onwards and upwards!
Space starts the year which is in fact the 20th anniversary. A season more proving that this institution is willing to make changes and take risks and already 2009 is shaping up to be another fantastic summer.

SPACE IBIZA “ON TOUR” ATERRIZO EN BARCELONA
La sala Ei-Two de Molins de Rei (Barcelona) fue el escenario el pasado Space Ibiza “ON TOUR” Con las actuaciones de Paul Darey y las performance de Foc I Fum.

Space Ibiza 20th Anniversary party at Mission
The world’s most revered club celebrated its 20th anniversary in August with its best season yet... to help celebrate Space Ibiza hosted a special 20th anniversary party at Mission Nightclub in Leeds. Mission was the perfect club to help us celebrate, since its major refurbishment in 2006, the club´s popularity has reached new heights. Tonight was also the highly anticipated re-opening of the club for all the students who had returned after the summer...
On arriving at the club, the first you notice is the long queue of clubbers eager to get in and experience the magical Space Ibiza vibe. The club has been totally transformed for the night, massive Space posters outside the club and all along the street, and chic white drapes in the main room, giving it a magical Space feel. Warming up the crowd is local resident DJ Josh Demello with an excellent funky house set, setting the scene for Camilo. Camilo played a full-on house set, which included all the Space Ibiza anthems from the summer, following Camilo was Smokin Jo, who has been an intergral part of Space Ibiza since 1993.
Smokin Jo is one of the most talented DJs to emerge from the British dance music scene. Jo’s undeniably cutting edge sound has carved her a niche in clubland, and tonight was no different. She started off with a house sound which gradually got tougher and more minimal, which was definitely one of the more tougher sets Mission has seen in a while, but the crowd loved it! The dancefloor was packed, with a sea of hands in the air appreciating the pulsating rhythm.
The night definitely captured a real Space Ibiza party atmosphere; with stunning decor, dancers, stilt walkers and Space Ibiza visuals, which made you feel like you were in Space, dancing in the flight arena. Mission and Space Ibiza, definitely a winning combination!
See you @ Mission again in November. DJs and date to be announced shortly.

Space Ibiza en The Image
A ésta seguirán otras citas.
Space, Ibiza, The Image, Bilbao y tú.

Has viajado a Sri Lanka con Space on Tour.
¿Habrá más Space on Tour? ¿Dispuesto a repetir la experiencia?
Claro… Pronto me verán allí donde vivan. Space on Tour se mueve, y a mí me encanta viajar. ¡Nos vemos!
