rEJEKT at Space Ibiza Tuesday 31 May

In Aid Of Christies Cancer Research Hospital

Return Of The Jedi’s

Last summer “The rEJEKTS” had a right good old time of it working with Space. Our first couple of parties in June and July went swimmingly which lead to a weekly residency throughout September culminating with our hosting of the Redbox as part of the mighty closing “fiesta” weekender on the 2nd October.

This year is shaping up to be more of the same as rEJEKTS return with the direct intention of extending Ibiza’s opening weekend as far as into the following week as possible. A party starting on Tuesday evening and ending, well, who knows when! We Are The Rejekts and we invite you to throw off the shackles of everyday life and join us as we dance our way into the middle of the week.

It just does

Work that is. We’ve spent a fair few summers kicking about the big white rave rock, doing our thing here and there in various venues and “off the radar” locations and with these parties at Space we're bringing all this experience together. It’s a truly international party as we put friends and hero’s that we’ve picked up along the way from Ibiza and around Europe alongside our favourite DJs and promoters from around us in the North of England.
As for the headliners it had to be something that’s interesting and exciting or what's the point. Without sounding cliché we strive to be as cutting edge as we can with the bookings. Otherwise it just won’t work for us or our crowd.
For example, last year on the 4th June which is a low season date, even more so as it was the weekend directly after IMS and the openings, we stuck our necks out and brought an Ibiza debut for Motor City Drum Ensemble alongside house Maestro Markus Fix (Cecille / Oslo) and Circo Loco resident Jose De Divina (Climatic Sound).
A line up that attracted a cosmopolitan crowd of over 2200 people onto the Terraza to dance all night long unified in the love of underground music. That’s what it is all about!
This year’s guests have come together nicely and there's already an elevated level of excitement from last year, I think partly because last year went so well and also because once again this year’s line-up has a nice edge to it and we’ve now we’ve been able to include quite a few more people over the extra rooms.
After the success of last year we've been able to improve the party on all fronts with the expansion into the Sunset Terrace and Redbox. The vibe gets stronger with the expansion of the rEJEKT iBIZA fAMILY.

This year we rolls like this...

Terraza Sunset
Trench & Dalton
Fingerprint DJs
Od Muzique
Treehouse DJs

Terraza:
iain Taylor (rEJEKTS)
Matthew Dear (M_Nus)
ilario Alicante (Cocoon)
Ellesse & Pete Zorba (Kaluki Music)
Jose De Divina (Circo Loco)

Redbox:
Mita & Zander
Brett Sinclair
Dan Sanders
Tom Burrows

If you can’t make the party but would still help us to help the whole world rEJEKT cancer please donate whatever you can at www.justgiving.com.

Our own little underground gem of a party, Kehakuma, currently shining bright through the sometime murky worlds of deep house and techno, is set to get heavy in June. Following on from the 2nd June Opening Party that sees resident Nick Curly alongside the likes of Simon Baker and Maya Jane Coles, we can announce 4 more line-ups for June, featuring more luminaries and underground wavemakers with a very Northern European feel.

On the 9th June, Kehakuma regular Guy Gerber rolls into town to bring his unique melodic sound to the Space Terrazza; a fusion of house, ambient and progressive sounds that has made his label Supplement Facts one of the hottest imprints around at the moment, garnering praise and collaboration from right across the scene. His b2b set with Seth Troxler at Kehakuma's 2010 Closing Party was one of the highlights of the year. Joining the Israeli, is the UK's Matt Edwards, better known as Radio Slave and acknowledged as one of the most forward-thinking producers of the last 5 years, having had a host of releases through his Rekids label and become accustomed to playing arenas like Berghain in Berlin and Fabric in London. Another part of the sensational Kehakuma closing party in 2010, Radio Slave's percussive, tribal rhythms and grooving beats are perfectly tuned to the Kehakuma philosophy. Completing the line-up is Leftroom Records' Matt Tolfrey, fresh on the back of celebrating 5 years of his classy label.

The following week, June 16th, sees the return of Nick Curly, Kehakuma's line-leader and sound-defining champion of this Thursday party of quality underground music. His partner in the renowned 8-Bit Records, Gorge, makes his debut at Space, in a rare island appearance of the duo together. Jamie Jones, who is easily amongst the most hyped artists around currently, returns to the Space Terrace, having seen an amazing 2010, thanks in no small part to his en vogue house/disco sound and celebrated Hot Creations record label. Representing from Holland is Lauhaus, whose discography reads like a who's who of Dutch electronic music, with releases on AreaRemote, Intacto and his own Soweso Records. Last but not least, Hypercolour Records owners, and Ibiza faces to boot, Cedric Maison and Alex Jones, feature on a strong Kehakuma bill.

June 23rd welcomes Kehakuma new boy - but certainly no stranger to Space - Steve Lawler, to the Terrace cabin. Hailed as the 'King of Space' or 'King of the Terrace' for his iconic performances on the old Space Terrace since over a decade, Steve has gone on to become one of the most successful UK Djs whilst constantly remaining at the forefront of fresh sounds. Also Space regulars for many a year, Tiefschwarz, join Steve to see if they can somehow raise the bar from their epic gigs for Kehakuma last year; Ali and Basti are experts party-starters. Rounding off this house fest is Markus Fix, fierce house producer and DJ who has become a staple on the underground scene in the last few years.

The month ends with a diverse party on June 30th, Nick Curly is the main man again and alongside him will be; Sebo K, classy house producer and total rock of the Mobilee family, whose hit 'Diva' is one of the defining underground records of recent years; Damian Schwartz, one of Spanish techno's brightest stars, who plays his well-toured live show, which has seen his productions reach labels such as Oslo and Raum......musik; Egbert, who also plays live again after one of the highlight moments for Kehakuma in 2010; and finally, Adam Shelton and Burnski who represent the very best of new UK producers, confirmed by their trusted alliance to the reputed Air London DJ stable.

It's going to be a busy month!! See you on the dance floor.

After receiving the great honour of being awarded Best Club in 'DJ Mag's Top 100 Clubs' Poll, thanks to the votes from tens of thousands of clubbers around the world, we've got a lot to do to ensure we live up to such an esteemed accolade, but what better way to begin than by announcing the next wave of DJs who'll be playing at Space Opening Party on Sunday 29th May.
Jeff Mills :One of Detroit techno's most respected and established names, Mills has been one of the key figures on the electronic music scene since the early days and continues to be one of the most influential DJ/producers around. His passion for artistic expression has lead him into all sorts of varied projects, not least his world renowned productions, such as his reinterpretation of Fritz Lang's classic Metropolis, but also other ventures into photography (Purpose Maker in Berlin/London, 1998) or the art installation that he made in Barcelona in 2001 (Mono Exhibition).

Fedde Le Grand :Dutch DJ and producer, who came to prominence for his single 'Put Your Hands Up For Detroit' released in 2006, but has since then maintained his position as one of the leading DJs on the globe and most sought after remixers, having already put his magic touch to works by Madonna and Robbie Williams. Furthermore, he is the owner of the label Flamingo, with Funkerman and Raf.

Wally Lopez : Our very own international star and Space resident, pioneer of House Music here in Spain to such extents that his musical passion has established him as the best known Spanish DJ, in fact, the only one who year after year makes it into the DJ Mag Top 100 DJ's Poll. His charisma, music know-how and professionalism have made him one of the most in-demand artists, both as DJ and producer, having important remixes for the likes of Tiesto , Bob Sinclar, Robbie Rivera, Dirty Vegas and Ricky Martin under his belt.

Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano: Two personalities with one objective; to entertain as many people as possible with their infectious brand of deep house and funky grooves. Since the moment, they entered into the world of DJing, they shared love of house music had quickly brought them together and they now are recognised as part of the ever-growing wave of Dutch DJs and producers that are taking the world by storm.

In addition, we are also pleased to announce that joining the already bursting line-up to ensure a full house, will be: Remo ( Italy ), Jonathan Ulysses (UK), MYNC (UK), Elio Riso (Argentina), Paul Darey (Spain ), Oscar Cano (Spain) and Steffen Baumann (Germany), with many more to confirm.

29th May is the date, don't even think about missing this explosive start to the Ibiza 2011 season. Come and join the Space Ibiza party!!

Carl Cox ready for Space Opening Fiesta

Ahead of Carl's appearance at Space Opening Fiesta and his 10th consecutive season of his own Tuesday party, we caught up with him last week in Australia to talk motorbikes, his new album and of course, Space Ibiza 2011 plans.

Hi Carl, what have you been up to in the winter? I know you like to get out on your motorbike a bit…
Yeah basically, I am in Australia at the start of every year, well from December time actually. My circle of life is that around this time I go to Miami and then work all the way through until end of November, start of December, when I'll go to Australia, do all my parties here, but also use it as some downtime. I've got quite a few bikes here, in fact i'm a bit of a collector and obviously love riding them, so I actually put together a ride that we do in New Zealand, along with some gigs, and then when we get back to Australia, we ride some more. We've just been to Tasmania with people I've met here down the years.
In the midst of me riding around Tasmania, I actually have just got back from Korea, which was for the launch of a new car by Hyundai and I've also just had a gig in Melbourne, which was the the live performance of my new Carl Cox album. For me it's been something I've been working on for a year and a half, so it was great to see it come to fruition, but more than that…….to do the whole album live for an hour and a half with vocalists, singers and musicians who've collaborated on the album was great.

Is that the plan for the album then, to perform it out live?
Yeah, I feel really strongly about it, because what I didn't want to do is spend all this time and money and energy to put it out, then it's on Beatport for a week and that's the end of it, it goes viral and that's it. I believe it has to have some kind of sustenance because all of the artists that I've used on the album are really talented and they can all perform as well. So I wanted to put a live show together so people could see the music I created in the studio and they'd be hearing it 'now, live' and knowing that these are people who helped make that music too.
Surely when people make music, that's the way [playing it live] you get your point across, in the sense of getting your album understood. My album has latin house on it, drum n bass, dubstep, house songs, it really is a journey of everything I enjoy and love. I want people to feel it and the only way you can get that across is to go live. That way my passion, my energy and what I bring to the table, is able to be represented, so that's what I'm looking to do.
The idea is bring this to as many festivals as we can or parties that I create, like Carl Cox and Friends, but I'll be incorporating it with the DJing. I think people get too scared with 'what is live all about?' but I just incorporate it with what I'm already doing, because as I have a captive audience, they're interested to see what I'm offering. I've actually road-tested all the tracks live in the past year to see what does and doesn't work, so I've kind of fine tuned the tracks as well.

You're back headlining Space Opening Party, you've obviously been a regular down the years, haven't you?
Well I played last year and yeah it's one of the parties I tend to play most. For me, I'm trying to support Space as much as possible, it's my spiritual home and where I'm really able to represent myself, which is one of the reasons I've been there for so many years. So it's important for me to support the club and it's a celebration of the joy the club has brought to so many people over the years. This year I'm doing the Opening and Closing parties, as well as obviously my Carl Cox 10 Years parties.

Tell us a bit about playing out on the Car Park at Space?
The car park was something I was able to be a part of in terms of its conception as part of Space Opening Party. I was there right from the beginning when it wasn't as big as it was now, but it was also different set-up, as Space was obviously just the Terrace and the Discoteca. When they opened the car park, it was like having a mini-festival all within the confines of Space. I really enjoyed the fact you had more people to play for but also that these people were there under the sun or under the stars, it's an awesome thing to feel free and dance in the open air. So all of that has developed into something very special and much bigger too; in the early days you had 7 or 8000 people in the club, that was it, whereas now the car park allows a lot more to get in and enjoy the party.

Obviously it's 10 years at Space for Carl Cox. I bet you weren't thinking about 10 years later when you started?
Haha! Yeah, I mean when I started to branch out of me playing there on a Sunday, Space was never really known as a nightclub, it was known as an after-hours club and the Sunday parties. It'd had never really had a nighttime situation until I decided I wanted to do something special and different. So it was a challenge really and we didn't know how it was going to go. We did the first year on a Thursday and then moved to do Tuesday and even at that time, I was thinking 'if I get a good 5 years out of this, that'll be great'. But as the night has developed, so has the club…….and it's just phenomenal, there's nowhere else like that club in terms of what it stands for. You know, I've grown with Space and it's somewhat of a match made in heaven, to be able to do what I want to do wholeheartedly and meanwhile the club has become a musical institution. Now, we're reaching a substantial time in both our histories, it's just an amazing feat, because a lot of people thought that this music and DJs and the island had had it……..not a chance!!!! It's much better now than it's even been.

Anything else planned for this summer?
I'm very much behind my record label at the moment, Intec Records, to try and nail down the new artists and music that is coming out on the label. I'm going to be bringing the live show around Europe, I feel really compelled to do this and show people that there is real creativity still out there.
So many artists spend so much time working on their albums, put them out and then that's it, very few of them, maybe Richie Hawtin or Laurent Garnier, actually perform it or tour it or tell a story live with it. Especially now, when it goes viral, it's harder for people to attach themselves to your music, people can pick out single tracks and you've done a whole album just for them to only like or listen to one track. When people hear the tracks live, they're more likely to become endeared to the music. I'm really excited about this concept and really looking forward to this year.

This summer, Gareth will be touching down on the White Isle for seven shows with a move to one of the world’s most legendary clubs: Space Ibiza, for Wednesday night’s BE.

As well as playing five DJ sets throughout the season, he’ll also be bringing his Northern Lights Concert to the island for two exclusive shows – the final two European shows for the tour.

Armin Van Buuren flies into Space Ibiza

The World’s Top DJ Moves His Ibiza Residency To The Island’s Premier Club

Armin van Buuren is this year switching his Ibiza residency to Space Ibiza– widely regarded as not only the best club on the island, but the best club on the planet. Armin will take up an exclusive residency at Space Ibiza for the whole summer, playing at the Wednesday night BE events.
Armin van Buuren will play in the main room for all his exclusive dates at Space Ibiza for the series of nights, presented by ALDA Events and Space Ibiza themselves. The Wednesday night spectaculars will begin on June 29th and occur every Wednesday for the whole Ibiza season. As well as great music from some of the world’s top names, clubbers can expect fantastic production from some of the best event managers in the business. Space’s huge confines will allow the décor and production to be taken up to new levels of wonder.

Armin was recently voted the No.1 DJ in the world in the DJ magazine Top 100 DJs poll – the definitive poll of a DJ’s current visibility and popularity. He will be flying in every week to play at Space Ibiza, and be joined at BE by a number of high-profile guests over the course of the summer. Markus Schulz and Gareth Emery, both top ten trance acts themselves and managed by David Lewis Productions, will be making various appearances at BE, as will breakthrough man-of-the-moment Jerome Isma-Ae from Germany whose productions have been acclaimed by all the top DJs from across the dance spectrum. Other up and coming David Lewis artists such as EDX, Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano will be playing on the terrace, with Spanish house hero Wally Lopez and Dutchman Fedde Le Grand.

There will also be a number of other exciting surprise guests making appearances over the coming months, the details of which will be released nearer the launch time.
“After a number of fantastic years at Amnesia, I’m really looking forward to my first season at Space this summer,” said Armin. “I'm really proud and honoured to work with such an established brand as Space. It's every DJ's dream to play in a club like this. It fits my sound perfectly. For me, it's the next step in my career and I'm really looking forward to the summer!”

The Ibiza season is nearly upon us, with clubbers from all over the world descending on the party isle for a celebration of all that is great about electronic music in the year 2011. Space opening is on May 29th, and a month later the first installment of Armin’s new residency will begin – June 29th. August 10th is a special date, when Armin will play one of his special long sets in the main room - all night long. On September 7th there will be A State Of Trance special, while the closing of BE will be a week later on September 14th. The official closing party of Space itself is October 2nd.

This is a major event in the Ibiza clubbing calendar, and a series of events that will be essential as the summer season unfolds.
