Glitterbox’s essence by Hercules & Love Affair
It’s a big week for Glitterbox – and for Ibiza in general – as the mighty Hercules & Love Affair stepped out onto the White Isle for the first of their live shows, promising to elevate the glitz and glamour of Space’s Friday night party to ever higher levels of disco-fuelled excitement.
The band's two sensational live performances helped define Glitterbox’s debut season last year, making this week’s event one of July’s most eagerly anticipated shows. And with appearances from Aeroplane, Horse Meat Disco, Simon Dunmore, Luke Solomon, and DJ Antz thrown into the mix, expectations were sky high for what is quickly becoming Ibiza’s favourite new residency.
Warming things up on the Terrace, two house music veterans Simon Dunmore and Luke Solomon were going back to back. It was a real treat to hear these guys digging deep into the house and disco vaults and on the Space soundsystem it sounded simply incredible!
The Italian-Belgian producer Vito De Luca – better known as Aeroplane – has established himself as party-starting DJ and remixer du jour with his spacious cosmic disco re-rubs of Grace Jones ('William’s Blood'), Friendly Fires ('Paris') and Sebastien Tellier ('Kilometer'), as well as via his own piano-sprinkled melancholic beauties like 'Caramellas'. His set cranked the party up a notch, with a noteable highlight being his new ‘Come Back Baby’ released under a new alias, Flush. From the reaction it received on the night, it’s likely that this could be one of the big records this summer.
So the stage was – quite literally - perfectly set for the appearance of Hercules & Love Affair, and boy did they come out firing on all cylinders! Their energy is something else to behold laying waste to the club with the unequivocal Glitterbox anthem ‘Do You Feel The Same?’. Andy Butler ripping his shirt off and performing topless for the remainder of their set only served to further enflame what was already a sizzling performance.
Horse Meat Disco were a fitting follow up to the on-stage freneticism of Hercules, laying thick, bouncing disco basslines and soaring vocals to an exhausted but determined crowd. By the time the last beat was dropped and we stumbled out into the morning sun, it was fair to say we’d been well and truly Glitterbox-ed.
Another amazing spectacle where the music and performances go hand in hand. Buy your tickets for Glitterbox at Space Ibiza and experience another unforgettable night with The Magician, Joey Negro and other artists the next Friday 10th July.

Hercules & Love Affair Live at Glitterbox this Friday
This Friday July 3rd, Hercules & Love Affair make their eagerly awaited live return to Glitterbox’s new home at Space Ibiza. The band's two riotous live performances helped define Glitterbox’s first season, and this week’s event is clearly marked as one of July’s most eagerly awaited shows. Joining Hercules & Love Affair will be Aeroplane, Horse Meat Disco, Simon Dunmore, Luke Solomon, and DJ Antz.
If there’s one band that embodies Glitterbox’s spirit, and shares its belief in the transformative power of house music, it’s Hercules & Love Affair, whose ringmaster Andy Butler cites Glitterbox as “a beautiful foray into creating a party focused on connecting the dots between genre, generations…” With the legendary Space Terrace as the backdrop to their first visit of this season, expect this to be one of the live shows on the island this summer.
Released in 2014, Hercules & Love Affair’s third album, ‘Feast of The Broken Heart’, captured the band at a new zenith, and showed that meaningful House music can speak to the most musically adept of tastes – a mindset that’s very much evident at Glitterbox. Defected Records subsequently signed the acid pop-house masterpiece ‘Do You Feel The Same’. Releasing the album track as a full-length DJ-friendly club mix, and with new mixes, it became the undisputed anthem of Glitterbox’s first season.
This year, Glitterbox’s international hit list of DJs and performers, playing the most beautiful and best-loved sounds across the full hemisphere of House and Disco, include Hercules & Love Affair, Todd Terje, Julio Bashmore, Basement Jaxx and Fatboy Slim who’ll appear together with a host of Glitterbox residents Joey Negro, Dimitri From Paris, Horse Meat Disco and Simon Dunmore. An extended cast that includes Louie Vega, Tensnake, Breakbot, Todd Terry, Aeroplane, Juan MacLean, The Revenge, David Morales, Kings Of Tomorrow, Claudio Coccoluto, Norman Jay, John Morales, FCL, Tim Deluxe, Lovebirds, DJ Pippi, Smokin’ Jo, Heller & Farley, Mousse T, The Shapeshifters, Luke Solomon, Purple Disco Machine, Copyright, DJ Antz, Mr Doris and Mo’ Funk, will all make guest appearances over the season.
As shown by the partnership with Space Ibiza (the island’s most iconic club with an unparalleled musical history), creative collaboration - and fun – is at Glitterbox’s heart. Overseen by Glitterbox Creative Director, Mark Herman, this year brings new creative elements to the event including the artist, TradeMark, who designed the season’s artwork, whilst masterminding the performance side, club collective “Savage” will consist of three different dance crews (Sink The Pink, Hot Heels & Nutbags) who will all bring their own unique energy to the night.
Come and experience it for yourself on Friday July 3rd with Hercules & Love Affair and other guest artists. Buy your tickets for Glitterbox at Space Ibiza and discover a hemisphere of House and Disco. If you can’t wait, listen to the last set by Purple Disco Machine and enjoy the Glitterbox’s Opening Party video.
Another unforgettable party by Vagabundos at Space Ibiza
One month into its summer 2015 residency on the Island, Cadenza Vagabundos celebrated its 4th gig last night at Space Ibiza with a cult lineup that included some historical figures of the european House movement. Sophisticated music for the very knowledgeable crowd was played all around the club well into the early ours of this morning, making this party a very welcome diversion from what is usually heard here. Once again, Luciano and Space Ibiza’s rule-changing and innovative artistic vision paid off big time, upping the ante for what’s to come in the next months.
Next Wave Ibiza debuted their collaboration with Vagabundos last night: the celebrated promoters and event organizers served up some of the finest talents on their roster. The Main Room was graced with an exquisite set by Soul Capsule, a.k.a. Baby Ford and Thomas Melchior. One of the founders of the UK Acid scene, Ford’s seminal minimalistic Techno experiments were the perfect match to Melchior’s (the German Micro House maestro) stripped back deep sounds. Their breakthrough classics “Overcome” and “Lady Science (NYC Sunrise)” proved to be timeless tunes.
More names from Next Wave in the Sunset Room: Bucharest’s underground rising star Cezar and E/Tape’s cosmic mind affairs created the perfect soundscapes for that environment, with
Milan’s Asso Spades rounding off the night.
Argy’s warmed up the Vagabundos room with his usual flare and super stylish presence. His recent Dominonation album on BPitch (with Berlin’s singer Mama) was a stormer: bringing UK Rave and Garage/2 Step to the next level, the pair’s Hacienda and 90’s R’n’B influences helped craft a true contemporary musical gem that appealed to numerous different audiences, from MJ Cole fans to (guess it) Ibiza’s party people. The guy knows how to make you dance, and last night the vibe was on fire since the beginning of the festivities.
Audiofly’s Luca and Anthony have accumulated unparalleled experience through their endeavours and continue to put everything into maintaining their careers at the highest level.
After a chance meeting in 2002, the two men have established a creative empire, which includes two record labels (Supernature and Maison D’Etre), a global party brand (Flying Circus) and fashion. Last night’s performance was another confirmation of their talent, both as DJs and as true entertainers, always keeping contact with the crowd.
No rest for Luciano, indeed: after a double gig on Saturday (Awakenings and Madrid’s 4every1 Festival), the Cadenza head honcho went on behind the deck full of energy and drive. Highlights of his mix included his masterpieces Orange Mistake and Bomberos, which sent the people absolutely bananas. One more for the books, for sure.

Glitterbox: the rumors have been confirmed
After only three parties of Glitterbox’s 2015 season, word is quickly spreading that there’s something a little bit special happening at Space Ibiza.
The island’s media have been overwhelmingly positive in their appraisal so far, so expectations remain high. Pulse said the opening was “easily one of the most genuinely fun times we’ve had” while Ibiza Voice predicted that “this might just be the start of something rather special.” So it was with more than a little excitement that we tripped down to Space on Friday night, to engulf ourselves in the latest party extravaganza the Glitterbox crew had crafted.
It was the influence of his elder brothers that informed the musical direction of Thibaut Berland aka Breakbot, who exposed him to the soul, funk and pop of Michael Jackson, Prince, Stevie Wonder and many more. Opening the Terrace, these influences were only too apparent and he laid on the disco edits thick and fast, creating a shimmering atmosphere inside the club. He’s previously described himself as “a dude in a basement looking for melodies”, but he looked equally at home here, bopping happily away behind his laptop setup, and giving the amassing crowd a warm smile as he moved through an exquisite set that included his own ‘Baby I’m Yours’.
With Ron Basejam and Mr. Doris keeping things rocking on the Sunset Terrace, the scene was well and truly set for Todd Terry to take centre stage. A Grammy Award nominated DJ and producer Todd Terry has been engulfed in dance music for more than 20 years, and is undoubtedly one of the most celebrated house artists of all time. His set wasn't disappointing, mixing many great house records that turned the terrace of the club upside down.
What Glitterbox manages to do exceptionally well is mix the musically new and the old into a current and relevant blend. Never straying too far into the commercial or the underground, Glitterbox appeals to those with broad but tasteful musical preferences and as such attracts a diverse crowd, even by Ibiza’s colourful standards.
Closing out the Terrace, Smokin Jo is a true Ibiza veteran, having first played on the island 22 years ago when club culture hadn’t yet fully taken hold. That wealth of experience was evident in her musical selections. As Jo lived up to her recent assertion that “Glitterbox is all about having freedom and choice with the music”. The fun behind the decks readily translated to the dancefloor, with a loyal faithful staying rapturous until the very last beat was dropped.
Glitterbox continues to weave its magic on the island.

Amazing Vagabundos at Space Ibiza with Erick Morillo
The Luciano gang keeps gaining momentum, and all the artists on stage delivered some outstanding performances. With the season kicking in at high speed (officially, it was the first day of Summer), it’s good to see more and more people getting on the Island and going out for some fun.
Ezikiel’s welcome debut on the Ibiza circuit was nothing short of spectacular: the Swiss DJ showed his diverse artist background by playing a tribal infused and percussive set, a cultural heritage of his upbringing. Growing up in Negril’s Beach, Jamaica, he was raised on a diet of Ska, Blue Beat and Dub. Couple that with his mom’s African roots and you can see where this guy comes from.
Willy Graff, Vallès and Remi Vannetti B2B Cyril followed through and made everyone dance with some sick Deep House cuts.
Main Room’s very special guest was none else than Mr. Erick Morillo (All Night Long): the “I Like To Move It” star delivered a selection filled with some of his most successful tracks and remixes to date, bringing his unique mix of House and Salsa and Merengue Music (a nod to his childhood years spent in Colombia) to the crowds of Ibiza, a place that has always held him in much respect throughout the years.
In the Terrace (a.k.a. the Vagabundos room) Felipe Valenzuela opened the dances in true Cadenza style: groovy bass melodies, crunching claps and shimmering rides coupled with subtle drum edits were played out in abundance from the speakers. The Melisma guy’s bubbling rhythms and warm synth lines grabbed the listeners’ attention, who were already shaking their bodies from early on in the night.
Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonds’ drum machines and samplers came up onstage afterwards: the Chic Miniature virtuoso played his trademark one-man show, with syncopated basslines and jazzy beats filling the airwaves.
Luciano’s performance was the perfect end to an incredible week for himself: his party in Barcelona for Off Week 2015 cemented his reputation as the party Golden Boy even more, making 5000 people dance throughout every second of his performance. His constant hand clapping and waving on stage, not to mention his uber-famous whistle, kicked some ass at Poble Espanyol, a night to remember for all his fans who were in attendance. With this level of energy, and after another triumphant gig in Italy on Saturday afternoon, Luciano had a good bunch of tricks up his sleeve ready for Space Ibiza, giving 110% once more in the Vagabundos room.
Highlight of the night, his superb remix of Los Updates’ ‘Getting Late’, with that infectious catchy vocals sending everyone bonkers.
See you next Sunday 28th June! Buy your tickets for Vagabundos at Space Ibiza and enjoy the sets by Luciano, Audiofly, Argy, Onur Özer, Cezar and more artists.

RAW CHANGE: transgression and provocation every Wednesday at Space Ibiza
Fear of change is exciting. The unknown draws us, the forbidden provokes us. Imagine transforming your life overnight, unleashing your deepest instincts. Losing control of yourself in a strange environment where there are no standards of conduct. Logic has no place at the new Space Ibiza party.
Every Wednesday from June 24th until September 9th, RAW CHANGE will cause a change in the way we understand the night, shaking off the established system with a transgressor concept where the biggest names in the national electronic scene will join an innovative and original definition of show.
The doors of Space Ibiza will only open for those people who are predisposed to live an experience dominated by spontaneity, prejudice will not be welcome.
If you do not like the strange, the extravagant, the bizarre, if you are afraid of ridicule, of what people say or you simply are not open to new experiences, THIS IS NOT YOUR PARTY.
Tickets for RAW CHANGE are on sale on the Space Ibiza website.
