Markus Schulz

Over the last 10 years Markus Schulz has fused the individual musical identities of progressive, house & trance into his own creative, now inimitable hybrid sound. Through the unique alignment of headliningDJ sets, Armada and Coldharbour label output and his highly prominent Global DJ Broadcast radio show, he’sspearheaded a sea change revolution in the US trance scene. This success has been reflected in weekly sets played in front of many tens of thousands, a GDJB listenership up in the millions & one Beatport chart-topperafter another. Following several highly ranked positions, in 2008 Schulz punched his way into the Top 10 of DJ Magazine’s Top 100 chart, landing at no.8. In repeating the exact same achievement in both 2009 & 2010 he now stands as the busiest DJ playing out of the United States.

Early History: Born in Eschwege, central Germany, Markus emigrated to the United States. Age 13, his dance music awakening came during the grip of the country’s then-exploding breakdance scene. His early production and DJ career roughly tracked that of the second stateside House explosion and he caught his first production break in 1993 when he remixed Sagat’s ‘Why Is It? (F** Dat)’ for FFrr. Markus’ freshman production release followed in 1994 with the 6-track ‘Plastik Trax EP Vol 1’. Throughout the mid to late Nineties he continued to accrue acclaim with a range of releases on numerous luminary U.S. labels. In 1998 he recorded ‘You Won’t See Me Cry’ for Plastik Records (his first label), which was picked up by the UK’s Eve Records and marked his first international release.

Markus Schulz – The DJ: Through his natural audience affinity, flawless (and seemingly effortless) key-mixing and innate tune selection, he has wowed crowds in pretty much every major district, principality and metropolis. Schulz’s DJ career has run largely parallel to that of his productions. In the early noughties, having concentrated on the hinterland between trance & progressive, he began to reach audiences further and further afield. In 2004 he was signed to the David Lewis Productions agency (also home of the World’s No.1 DJ Armin van Buuren) and his career took another big step forward. Now a regular fixture at the world’s biggest & most famous clubs, arenas and festivals, he lays down his unique trance-progressive vision on a weekly basis. In Europe, he’s smashed Trance Energy, Nature One, Dance Valley, Sunrise, Tomorrowland & Pleasure Island; worked tent-pegs loose at Creamfields; gridlocked Global Gatherings all around the world and twice played allnight 8hr solo sets at Armada @ Amnesia in Ibiza. Stateside the colossal Ultra, Electric Daisy & Nocturnal

Festivals have all felt Schulz pressure and yet further afield still he’s engineered floor uproar in China andAustralia (most recently at the Future Music Festival). He has polled 3 consecutive years inside DJ Mag’sworld’s top 10, ranked as world’s #2 in the Trance Addict, FTB & Trance Podium 2010 charts and won Best American DJ at the IDMAs in 2008. Coldharbour Recordings: Schulz’s sound notably came quickest to the ears of continental European DJs.

Following the formation of the Armada group in 2005, Armin sought Markus out and asked him to start compiling tracks for a new vinyl series. The Coldharbour Sessions EPs launched in 2004 (with the first 3 releases coming out on the already established Electronic Elements label). In quick succession they began to leave crater-like impacts on dancefloors and within 12 months Coldharbour the label was born. Named afterMarkus’ then-production base in London’s Coldharbour Lane, its output immediately brought a new angle sound to Armada. It also became a lightning rod for a new generation of prog-inclined producers – setting in motion the careers of (amongst others) Santiago Nino, Rex Mundi, Mark Otten & Niklas Harding. With 2005 under the spell of Coldharbour’s more sophisticated, minimal, but still melodic take on the prog-trance sound, Markus struck again with the first Coldharbour Sessions mix compilation.

Such has been the success of the imprint that in 2007 it was joined by a sub-label, Coldharbour Red. This, in turn, was a launch pad for Marcus Schössow, tyDi, Glenn Morrison & Evol Waves and was the point of re-entry for early Schulz side-project, Dakota (*see Dakota section below). Six years after its birth, in 2010, Coldharbour stands at the top tier of the world’s trance & progressive labels and in August 2010 celebrated it 100threlease with Markus’ cover of Cass & Slide’s ‘Perception’. M.S. Productions 2005 – 2009: Perfectly intersecting the quality/quantity axis, Markus’ own productions have been the most fundamental of components in marshalling clubbers and music lovers to his sound. Over the course of the last half-decade singles like ‘First Time’ & ‘Without You Near’ (2005), ‘Fly To Colours’, ‘Never Be The Same’ & ‘I Am’ (2007) ‘Perfect’ & ‘Cause You Know’ (2008) & most recently ‘The New World’ & ‘Do You Dream?’ have each played their vital part. Markus is also a keen production collaborator. In 2005 he famously teamed up with likeminded producers Gabriel & Dresden and Departure for ‘Without You Near’ and in mid-2008 did the same with Andy Moor on ‘Daydream’ and most recently on ‘Goodbye’ with Max Graham. The impact of all the singles has been cauterized by his studio albums ‘Without You Near’ (2005), ‘Progression’ (2007).

M.S. Productions 2010 – 2011 - ‘Do You Dream’: In February 2010, Schulz completed principle recording onhis third long-player, ‘Do You Dream?’ The 16-track album was released on June the 15thin many key territories. Its release prompted Tilllate Magazine to say its “sonic explorations went into every conceivable angle” & that the album was “energetic” & “exhilarating”. DJ Mag said “it guides (the listener) through dreamy ambient, downbeat chords, fist-pumping prog, house and trance, as well as the odd skipping breakbeat” and went on to say “it’s hard to see why you won’t completely adore this”. On April the 1st, 2011 the album’s remix edition was released. It included track remakes from heavyweights including Ferry Corsten, Cosmic Gate & Super8 & Tab as well as core Coldharbour artists like Tucandeo, Mr Pit and Mike Foyle. The remix edition will be joined by Schulz’s first DVD release in May, which documents the ‘Do You Dream?’ world tour.

The Global DJ Broadcast show: Now in its fifth year Schulz’s GDJB has continued to be a beacon for an always-growing throng of trance & progressive dance fans. Having begun life on Miami’s Party 93.1 station, it is now broadcast through DI.fm and Sirius/XM satellite, the Global DJ Broadcast site and over 50 other FM stations around the planet. Based on a regular format, the first show of each month is a two hour long mix from one of Schulz’s rolling World Tour gigs - ones that have of late included Medellin, Columbia, St Petersberg, Russia & Amnesia in Ibiza. Subsequent shows in the month feature Markus mixing his broad-span pick of the current electronic dance music best for an hour (which includes the forum-voted Global Selection track of the week) followed by guest mixes from both established and up-and-coming DJs. Markus Schulz – The City Albums: Markus is also responsible for one of the longest running and most respected compilation album series in trance history.

Kicking off in 2005 in Miami, its city-hopping concept has gone on to spotlight Ibiza in ’06, Amsterdam in ’08 & Toronto in ’09. In 2010 it homed in on Las Vegas (for an album that Mixmag said: “managed the rarity of living up to the hype” and “ranked as his best yet”) and in February 2011 it returned to Europe to focus on Prague. Providing a microcosmic view of his sound, the albumshave become cornerstones for fans CD & mp3 collections, with each new travelogue edition bringing in a fresh wave of supporters. Notably, the Amsterdam ’08 release was nominated for an IDMA award for Best Full Length DJ Mix (in the same year that Markus took home the trophy for Best American DJ).

Remixes: Markus powered into remix action in the early 90s with a 30-strong volley of high-profile reworks. Over the course of the decade he re-tooled the production works of Euro dominators like The Real McCoy & Technotronic, house masters & divas including Armand van Helden & Liz Torres, legendary Nineties icons RuPaul, Bette Midler & Sandra Bernhard and fully-fledged A-listers like Madonna. As the Millennium arrived he began to work on deeper, more intrinsically electronic dance fare... In 2000 he remixed trance innovator Pablo Gargano’s ‘Absolution’, PQM’s Renaissance classic ‘The Flying Song’ and Fatboy Slim’s ‘Sunset (Bird of Prey).

Satisfied that he’d found the right dance strata to focus on Markus has gone on to rewire tracks by Oceanlab, Motorcycle, Dance 2 Trance, Cosmic Gate, Nalin & Kane, Kyau & Albert, John O’Callaghan, & Space Manoeuvres amongst many, many others.

Markus Schulz aka: Dakota: Markus has only made rare use of pseudonyms through his career - seeing them as being only valuable if they represent an outlet for something other than his ‘regular’ output. At the turn of the last decade Schulz released 3 tracks (‘Swirl’, ‘Frozen’ & ‘Lost in Brixton’) under the moniker Dakota. Over time these became entry points for many new fans. In 2009 Schulz paid dues to this by resurrecting the guise, updating its sound and directed his attentions on a whole album of new Dakota material. ‘Thoughts Become Things’ was the end product and with it came a route diversion that went into a new valley-deep sound – one that expanded to embrace the fringes of techno, house and other sub-genres. It expanded that both Schulz’s fanbase and the range of DJ support for his music. The album has thus far justified 7 single releases that have included particular fan-favourites ‘Chinook’, ‘Johnny the Fox’, ‘Koolhaus’ & ‘Mr Cappuccino’. Such was its success that Schulz announced that in July of 2011 the follow up would arrive in stores.

Jochen Miller

Bringing a visionary, never-heard-before crossbreed of progressive, electro & trance to his studio and deck work, Holland’s Jochen Miller embodies the new decade’s freeform, big room sound. From his earliest turntable days he’s challenged the traditional EDM boundaries to take countless global dancefloors by storm. A spinner without parallel, he’s comprehensively conquered his home-country, playing tent-pole events including Trance Energy, Mysteryland & Dance Valley before branching out abroad.

Production-wise, Jochen is most quickly associated with his 15+ releases on High Contrast Recordings. Over the last 7 years tracks like ‘Lost Connection’, ‘Humanoid’, ‘Brace Yourself’, and most recently ‘uPad’ and the Energy2011 anthem ‘Classified’ have wowed clubbers globally and shaken dance floors down to their foundations.

The DJ: In 2000 Jochen became the first ever resident at Nijmegen’s scene-setting, and now widely-renowned, Matrixx club. From there he’s gone on to become a fixture at many of Holland’s cooler, underground venues. With his fashionable style, charismatic disposition and affinitive, authoritative deck approach, he quickly made a name for himself at spots like DansSalon, Westrunie & RoyceBoxmeer. From that base he’s begun to export his new musical synthesis globally, paying regular visits to The USA and Canada, Russia, Italy, The UK, Germany, Poland (most recently for Sunrise) & the Czech Republic to spin. Following a rapid burgeoning of his fan-base, the latter half of 2010 saw him sign to the David Lewis Productions DJ agency - home to A-list spinners including Armin van Buuren, Markus Schulz & Gareth Emery.

Productions: Following his earliest turn-of-the-millennium productions (‘Surround Me’& 7thHeaven’ among them), his discography went into overdrive with the launch of broadrange music label, High Contrast.

‘India’, ‘Chromatic’, ‘Alive’, ‘And Then’ (in collaboration with Rank 1) and ‘Face Value’ all provided heavy-impact floor artillery for tougher-minded DJs like Marco V, Sander van Doorn & Judge Jules. The multi-genre character of his sound was brought most keenly into focus in late 2010 his ‘Classified’ single was announced as the soundtrack to ID&T’s newly diversified Energy ‘11 event. Another significant career evolution beckons midway through 2011 with the release of Jochen’s widely-anticipated debut artist album.

Compilations: Jochen has been mixing compilations as far back as 2002 (when he put together the first Matrixx CD). He now has six under his belt - the most recent being 2009’s High Contrast Recordings Presents Jochen Miller and the co-mixing of EnTrance Presents High Contrast alongside Rank 1 in March of 2010.

Radio Show: In the autumn of 2010 Jochen began a new monthly radio show… Stay Connected is broadcast on an ever expanding list of stations, which already include AH:FM, Dance Tunes Radio, Trance FM, Radio Hi-Tec, Trancesonic and SATO Radio. With the program also available as a podcast download, the sixty minute show delivers his unique sound-fusion worldwide every month. He also compiles and mixes the quarterly iTunes-released Stay Connected compilations, which draw the best of the best music from his radio show for commercial release mixes.

Jerome Isma-ae

Hailing from Munich, Jerome Isma-Ae is one of the highest-selling, most successful Prog House DJ/producers of the last 3 years. He is reinventing and designing the sounds since the early years of EDM. Building, combining, releasing and holding on to a continuously sharp sound, fit for both timelessness and the current demands of the dancefloor society. German producer/DJ Jerome Isma-Ae sure kept himself busy over the past 15 years. But results are showing. With the characteristic Isma-Ae sound on his side, requested and praised by many, he's got the best weapon there is: the ability to stand out. Mind you, it's a weapon he won't hesitate to use...

Jerome:"I was in a musician elementary school, where I've been educated in playing several music instruments. At the age of 12, I played the bass in a metal band, around my 15th I started to program my first beats with a drum machine and 3 years later I released my first record on a German techno label called 'Delirium Records', and so on and so on. I'm never satisfied, but there is always an improvement from production to production."

That's how the Isma-Ae story started. One essential fact is missing though, how and when did Jerome get in touch with that thing called dance? Jerome:"It was 1991, when we replaced our bands drummer by a drum machine." From that year on, EDM and the revolution it set forth were part of Jerome's everyday life.

The first few years of Jerome's career were all about exploring the different sides of music. A year after his first release, he teamed up with Marcel Krieg and gave birth to the Future Funk project, bringing a successful combination of house, disco, soul and funk. To Jerome, it's that well balanced blend of styles that makes the ride worthwhile.

Nowadays, though most of his work is labeled 'progressive house', these influences can still be heard in his productions. Variety is the soul of pleasure, right? Jerome:" Well, you can't eat schnitzel every day I guess. Otherwise it gets boring."

A fine piece of German delicacy never hurt anyone, but we'd rather keep things versatile, yes. So how would Jerome describe the sound in his 'Smile When You Kill Me', 'Monkey Square' and other big tunes? Jerome:"Hotter than a porn star, stronger than a Lamborghini! My sound has been going through some changes in the last couple of years, but I've always kept my signature in productions and remixes, so everyone can hear right away where it's from."

Another example of the versatile producer that is Jerome, is his involvement with movie soundtracks and commercials. Projects for Audi, Marlboro and several other biggies, saw him opening up to the more commercial type of producing. You don't just end up working for big names like that, so how did he get into this business? Jerome:"Via friends working for advertising companies and another good friend who is a movie director. We made the soundtrack for his first movie together. I also added a few tracks for his latest movie 'Männerherzen', which is no. 1 in the German cinema charts at the moment. The funny thing about this movie is that one of the leading role is about a music-producer who is banging many girls. And his name is Jerome, hehe. But of course, it's just a movie. Has nothing to do with the real life."

Despite the many projects he's doing, there's still not enough time to complete them all. Jerome:"At the moment there is not even enough time to accept every remix request. I just had to decline a job for a BMW advertisement . I should be an octopus, then I could work on many projects in the same time, or at least I'd be good food."

Over the past few years, aside from Future Funk and other projects, Jerome has been busy enough building his own catalogue of originals and remixes. Needless to say it's worked out for him. His remix of Nightcrawlers’ monsterhit ‘Push The Feeling On’ made it #1 in the U.S. Billboard Dance Charts in 2002, it was #1 in the German Dance Charts in 2004. Jerome’s dirty, hot remix of ‘Guru Josh Project- Infinity 2008’, one of that year’s biggest Dance anthems, made it #1 in the UK Club Chart. The single achieved gold status in Australia and Germany, it peaked at #1 on the Dutch and French Singles Chart, and #3 on the UK Singles Chart. His inspirational, upfront releases such as ‘Rokit’and ‘Phantom’ have graced the catalogues of every prominent label from Armada Music and Hope Records to Ministry Of Sound. His ‘Underwater Love’ was voted Best Chill Out Track for the Beatport Music Awards 2009. He’s one of the few DJ/producers with true crossover appeal, with his tracks being just as popular with Armin van Buuren and Markus Schulz as they are with Pete Tong and Hernan Cattaneo.

In 2009 alone, he's made remixes for the likes of Faithless, Above & Beyond, Paul van Dyk and Way Out West. And yes, he even gave Michael Jackson's 'Stranger in Moscow' a little proggy shake. Jerome:"For the progressive house / trance genre I am like what AMG is to Mercedes, or MTM is to Audi. I just make the original product more sporty, powerful and unique. You can call me a 'tracktuner', hehe."

Besides 'tracktuning' and producing one dancefloor cracker after another, Jerome spend his time well by setting up his own label, Jee Productions. Jerome:" I just wanted to do my own thing, without any influence from outside. It works pretty good if I find the time to release something on it. The last release was '308', produced by Sebastian Krieg and me. The track is dedicated to the Ferrari 308.

His new single, 'Hold That Sucker Down', is out now on Armada Music imprint Pilot 6. Based on the early 90's hit by O.T. Quartet, Jerome hands in an intense remake of pure progressive delight. 'Hold That Sucker Down' is a fierce weapon on the dancefloor, peak-time and building tension from the very first, rumbling beat. Caned by number one DJ Armin van Buuren throughout the summer and chosen record of the week by UK greatnesses Above & Beyond, it's only a matter of time before 'Hold That Sucker Down' starts spreading like a feel-good virus. Jerome:"It sounds great, but I guess you knew that already, haha. The original production is made by Rollo, who is also the producer of Faithless. I'm a big fan of his work for a long time and it made me very proud when he recently asked me to remix the new Faithless song." Besides remixes for Faithless, Jerome has plenty of other good stuff ahead.

Jerome:"remixes...gigs around the world and a few original productions in the beginning of 2010. And of course I'm working on a follow up single of 'Smile When You Kill Me'.”

Glen Morrison

His has been an unusual career path. He started off as a classical pianist, a preteen prodigy, performing – and winning –competitions. Then came a life-changing encounter with electronic music. “When I was 14, I was at a high school house party, and there was somebody in the basement with two turntables and a mixer playing techno,” says Glenn. “It was new, it was fresh, it was underground. It was something I had never heard before. And I embraced it in all of its forms.”

He discovered classic mixes by DJs like Sasha and John Digweed on the Global Underground series, got lost in Adam Beyer’s techno excursions, tripped out to Paul Oakenfold’s Goa mixes – and started buying records. “I started DJing during the vinyl period.

I was buying a lot of records. It took me a couple of months, practising in my parents’ house and it consumed my life,” he says.

Soon Morrison and his friends were staging their own house parties – DJs in the basement, girls around the pool. By the time he was 17, he had talked himself into a job at Toronto’s Release Records – both a store and an underground label. And that was it. “I knew what I wanted to do.”

When DJing offers started to come in, Glenn Morrison took them. He would play anywhere, sleeping on promoters’ floors in smaller cities in Brazil and China and Eastern Europe, soaking up the vibe. “It was a great learning experience to play in the club; no one can teach you. And I wanted to completely saturate myself.”

And as a classical pianist, the move into production came naturally. He worked with fellow Canadian producer Deadmau5, then struck out alone. Everything changed in 2007 with the release of his hit ‘Contact’, an emotional, yet minimal trance record with shivers of delicious melody and a crisp, funky beat that left no dance-floor unturned. Tiësto put it on a compilation and it shot to the top of the World Dance Charts. ‘No Sudden Moves’ followed: a driving, progressive house number with compulsively funky beats galvanized by shards of metallic melody. It too topped the World Dance Charts. Glenn Morrison had arrived. He studied law at theUniversity of Toronto and had a place to study an MBA at Harvard. But post graduate education was going to have to wait.

As a DJ, Glenn Morrison is now a major draw on the world circuit. He has played over 300 events worldwide in the last three years and has developed into a consummate DJ performer. “I love being able to play with people’s feelings, to build the night,” he says. “For me it’s about creating an experience. Starting at ten o’clock and then building the intensity.”

He is a relaxed, grounded character, driven to create. And he is as versatile a DJ as he is a producer. He will tease the crowd with minimalist deep house, throw them into raptures with his inventively twisted techno deconstruction of Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, then lighten the mood with a fluffier vocal number. “When I’m DJing I feel great if other people are happy,” he says. “It’s a party at the end of the day, and it’s your job to make people have the time of their life.”But fresh, contemporary DJ stars like Glenn Morrison know that making your own records is the way to stay in the game. And hecontinues to produce: recent tracks like the haunting and hypnotic ‘Green Valley’ or the lusciously emotional vocal number ‘Mine and Yours’ capture feelings and paint pictures with sound.

Production continues apace in the new mastering studio Morrison has built in Toronto. Be it sound design for video game companies like Nintendo, EA Sports, Activision or Rockstar, or his own productions, he simply doesn’t stop making and playing music. “I don’t have a life. I spend all my time making music or playing music,” says Glenn. And he looks everywhere for new influences.

Glenn was at the Grammies – but to look and learn, not see and be seen. Movie soundtracks are a major influence behind his music and his next project is to create a live band to perform the album he plans to produce. It will, he promises, be much more than a club soundtrack, much more than electronic music. His track ‘Love Lost’, composed after a break-up with a girlfriend, is a tantalizing taster. It is an exquisite solo piano piece that sounds like the theme to a classy, romantic movie scene. Deceptively simple, without drums or electronic trickery, ‘Love Lost’ is a glimpse of the creative ambition yet to be realized. “I try to put ideas into reality. I don’t always succeed,” concludes Glenn. “But if I’m going to do it, I’m going to do it properly

BLAKE JARRELL

The past two years have brought this extraordinary young artist a plethora of serious achievements. From his ongoing summer residency at the legendary Amnesia club in Ibiza, to a 40 country world tour to complement his successful 2-disc DJ mixed compilation for the Armada Dancefloor Sessions series. Blake Jarrell is one of the fastest rising stars in the dance music industry today.

It is hard to believe that just a few years ago Blake's fortunes we're anything but good. Blake arrived in his adopted hometown of Chicago in 2005 shortly after packing up all his belongings and fleeing the Mississippi Delta from the menace of Hurricane Katrina. The Windy City's vibrant electronic music community embraced Blake's natural fan making ability and he was making waves in no time.

Blake quickly rose through the ranks of local jocks and a big break was just ahead. Some high profilebookings brought on a chance meeting with Armada Music's head aficionado Armin Van Buuren. After listening to a few of his original productions, Armin contacted Blake and soon after he joined the Armada artist roster. Since that time Armin has invited Blake on several of his world tours as an exclusive special guest performer. Finally, Blake cemented his relationship with Armada Music when he joined a select group of international stars for full summer residencies at Armada's weekly shindig at Amnesia in Ibiza in 2007 and 2008.

Battle tested indeed, after traveling to over 90 cities, the New Orleans kid turned Chicago hometown heavyweight remains busy and is looking to climb further up the DJ charts with an intense schedule of original productions and remixes. Blake's studio skills are what earned him an undisputed reputation and his creativity is enjoyed and heavily supported by Markus Schulz, Tiesto, Ferry Corsten, Paul van Dyk, Pete Tong, Matthew Dekay, John Digweed, Paul Oakenfold and of course Armin Van Buuren.

Blake recalls his 2008 hit Punta del Este and his remix of Moussa Clark's She Wants Him as just some of the highlights of his young career. The former was featured on Armin Van Buuren's acclaimed A State of Trance 2008 compilation, and the latter held the #1 position on Beatport's trance charts for several weeks.

It is this blistering pace of success that has kept Blake grounded which explains his dedication to expanding his monthly radio show Concentrate. The show continues to evolve and reach new audiences by featuringsignature mix sets from Blake Jarrell and special international guests. He believes in his fans immensely and works tirelessly to give back to the people that have supported him and his records.

Blake is set to kick off 2009 with an international tour in the better part of February in support of his upcoming project for Armada Music. A unique compilation that will feature some of Blake's original work as well as high profile remixes. The album will debut at the Winter Music Conference in Miami at the end of March with a CD release on Armada Music scheduled shortly after. The tour will see Blake off to Riga, Stockholm, Helsinki, Vancouver, Toronto, Miami, Boracay, and San Francisco, among others.

Blake Jarrell sets the bar awfully high for aspiring young artists from Chicago, New Orleans and beyond, but it is his perseverance, dedication, hard work, and most of all passion for his craft that sees him through to the top and across the world.

Ashley Wallbridge

Ashley Wallbridge is undoubtedly one of the most prolific prospects on the progressive production scene in 2010, named by industry leaders such as Andy Moor and Gareth Emery as one of the hottest break-through DJ talents in the game. At just 23 years of age, his discography reads like the ‘who’s who’ list of EDM with releases of originals and remixes featuring names like Armin Van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, Andy Moor, Markus Schulz and many others.
There isn’t a global syndicated dance radio show denying regular homage to Ashley’s unique sound of progressive elements with his titles found on playlists, compilations and DJ sets. The future is bright for this rising star and he is just getting started...

Ashley Wallbridge resides in the Midlands of England in Stoke of Trent. DJ-ing as an early teenager Ashley’s focus has always been firmly set on production, tinkering with digital software after school hours, honing his skills for the future. The result; a unique sound that rivals the best progressive producers in the game, a thought A-list artists and labels share. In the early days it was DJ competitions that would demand the attention of the local scene and give him his start in the networking world.

Taking out first place in numerous competitions with fake ID, Ashley went on to play venues in which he wasn’t even old enough to enjoy a beverage! Still finding his feet with his productions skills, Ashley was immersed in music surrounding himself with all the tools that would produce quality work. As it all started to come together in the studio, Ashley was offered his first record deal, which would produce a series of single releases.

It wasn’t long before Ashley began work with some of the best talent in the game. Spotting the hypnotic vocals of now very recognizable Meighan Nealon, the two teamed up to work on a series of releases together of which the stand out title ‘My Blood’ would leave a mark on the industry. The track was very successful with trance and progressive DJ’s summoning support from artists like Armin Van Buuren and attracting attention from the Armada stable and fellow UK producer and #15 DJ (DJ Mag Top 100) Andy Moor. Shortly after Andy and Ashley began work on the collaboration Faces’ again acquiring the skills of Meighan Nealon on vocals. The track was released on AVA Recordings, a sub label of Armada, and fast became one of the biggest titles of 2009. Accompanied by a cutting edge film clip, the youtube version alone received over 300,000 views and ‘Faces’ dominated download charts worldwide.

Ashley’s follow up single was a dub, club title called ‘Chimera’ which went straight to the #1 spot onBeatport after only a few days, staying strong holding the top spot for three weeks. Alex M.O.R.P.H.

A l e x M . O . R . P . H . Is not only one of Germanyʻs most prominent Trance DJs & producers, but he has grown to a stand-out personality in the global dance music business.

From a small independent artist with various producer aliases, Alex M.O.R.P.H. was able to establish and redefine himself and his sound again and again, delivering a big palette of highly respected quality productions and remixes over the years - for and with worldwide top artists like Armin van Buuren, Paul van Dyk, Faithless, Markus Schulz, Rank 1 and others.

His biggest impact on the dancefloors to date was the 2007 megasmasher „Life Less Ordinary“together with the famous dutch duo Rank 1, which resulted in a tremendous hype all over the world and burned the name Alex M.O.R.P.H. into the Trance world map once and for all. Reason enough for Paul van Dyk to lock up Alex in his studio, producing 2 van Dyk/M.O.R.P.H.collaborations for PvDʻs 2007 hit album „In Between“!

Other successful releases like „Turn it on“ (on VANDIT Records), „Unification“, „New Harvest“, „I Love Trance“ (all on Fenology Records) and others underline the always rising carreer of this exceptional artist. As a DJ, Alex M.O.R.P.H. exactly knows how to keep the crowd going and how to interact with his fans. His experience is truly impressive, with past and upcoming gigs at all major club events and world leading festivals like Trance Energy, Mayday, Gatecrasher, Nature One, Soundtropolis, Cream Ibiza, A State of Trance, Stadium of Sound, and many many more...

Alex is also the co-founder & co-host of the global radio & event concept HeavensGate. Together with his longtime partner Woody van Eyden (as a B2B DJ team they were voted into the DJ Mag Top100 of 2008!), they present their weekly radioshow on a network of high profile radiostations around the world (over 30 countries at the moment) and gain more and more fans rapidly.

The own HeavensGate events (Boat Party, Loveparade float + official afterparty, HeavensGate happenings in Scotland, Mallorca, Ibiza and others) are an important indicator of the growing popularity and fanbase. In 2009 he entered the DJ Mag Top100 again and it was finally time to unleash his highly awaited debut artist album “Purple Audio” which included club smashers like “Sunset Boulevard”, “Photograph” and “Purple Audio”. The album resulted in an overwhelming success and the “Purple Audio Worldtour” went really fantastic. The remixed version of this album, called “Purple Audio Reloaded”, featured remixes of the original album tracks by high profile artists like Menno de Jong, Estiva, Signum, Woody van Eyden and many more, and found its way to the record stores in the mid of 2010.

With a massive production list and an amount of more than 150 remixes, Mr. M.O.R.P.H. is in demand more than ever and after releasing his phenomenal „Hands on Armada“ remix album with completely renewed Trance classics, heʻs back in the studio once again, which proves that Alex M.O.R.P.H. needs sleepless nights and rushfull days to fulfill his engagement to the scene.
