This last Sunday the popular Cursa Flor d'Ametller was celebrated in Sant Antoni (Ibiza), Space - sponsor of the Atletisme Pitiús Club-, is extremely proud as the athlete Anass Bourass was crowned first.

Bourass is one of the new runners of the popular races of the islands, and with this award he has achieved his first victory in one of the most beautiful tests of the calendar runner and in which a total of 275 runners participated.

The landscape of the route is in one of the times of more splendor, since the almond trees are in flower. The goal was 7.5 kilometers and the athlete Bourass managed to complete in a time of 24:14 minutes.

Among the other runners could see a lot of shirts that wore the logo of Space, something very important for the brand as part of its philosophy: the love of sport on the island.

5 reasons to come to the Space Closing Fiesta

Laugh or cry, start or end, dance or… dance! This Sunday, October 4th thousands of smiling faces will fill Space Ibiza. Although there are mixed feelings, you will have a good time like no other at the Space Closing Fiesta. On one side you celebrate the end of the 2015 season and on the other, the beginning of the countdown for next summer.

There are many reasons for you to come, but here are 5 reasons that will have you convinced. The best Space Closing Fiesta of your life is getting closer:

5 razones space closing fiesta 2015 035 razones space closing fiesta 2015 015 razones space closing fiesta 2015 021. Say goodbye to the season

Because summer does not begin to end until the #SpaceClosingFiesta speakers blast. The closing of Space Ibiza marks the end of the summer party season for 26 years now. But don’t be sad, because as of October 5th there will be fewer days left to enjoy yet another season in the club at Playa den Bossa.

2. Music

It might seem obvious, but it must be said- for the music. If something stands out in an event like the #SpaceClosingFiesta, it’s the 20 hours of continuous, uninterrupted programming in 6 different stages. A continuous session of delightful sounds to make you dance nonstop with 37 DJs, including: Carl Cox, Luciano, Erick Morillo, Deep Dish, Ben Klock, Edu Imbernon, John Talabot, Josh WInk, Nic Fanciulli and Tania Vulcano.

3. Experience a different sunrise on the Terraza of Space Ibiza

You may have seen the sun in a thousand places, but not like in the Terraza of Space Ibiza. As the blinds surrounding the dance floor that gave birth to the After Hours in Ibiza rise, you know you are experiencing something totally classic, especially if Carl Cox b2b Nic Fanciulli are behind the decks.

4. The outdoor stage

It’s the last chance this year to see the stunning display of lights and sound that Space Ibiza mounts in the back parking lot of the club. From 4:30pm until midnight, this stage will be the protagonist of the #SpaceClosingFiesta.

5. Inimitable

After more than a quarter century of making a difference in Ibiza, the club founded by Pepe Roselló knows how to get the best of you on the dance floor. The atmosphere made up of happiness, passion for music and solidarity flood every corner of Space Ibiza.

Now you don’t have any excuses not to come to the 2015 closing of Space Ibiza. Buy your tickets for the #SpaceClosingFiesta and live something unique.

Julio Bashmore: Holding On

Julio Bashmore65 Gbox Gallery66 Gbox Gallery71 Gbox Gallery

Last night at Glitterbox it was all about the music, with staggeringly talented line-up of house and disco talent. Headlining, Julio Bashmore make his  Glitterbox debut, dropping plenty of cuts from his disco-inflected and highly anticipated forthcoming debut LP Knockin’ Boots. We also welcomed DJ Spen for his first ever Glitterbox set: people were blown away by the extraordinary turntablism of the former Basement Boy. The Revenge, Simon Dunmore and Mr. Doris completed one of the strongest line-ups you’re likely to find anywhere in Ibiza. If you weren’t there, you missed out!

Ahead of the party we spoke to Julio Bashmore about his album, Glitterbox and why he’s changed his view on giving interviews…

Knockin’ Boots has been some time in the making – are you ready for its release?

It’s all good.  I’m doing a lot of promo work which is something I’ve never done before, but the early vibes are positive.  Plus I’m managing to squeeze all my gigs in so things are going well.

On promos – your reputation for giving few interviews precedes you.  What has changed?

When I started up I really didn’t think that I had much to say.  I was only 20 and didn’t know what shit I was doing.  But now, five years on, I’ve been through lots of ups and downs, and have a lot of experiences to talk about.  I’ve grown up and my musical ideas have developed – I have plenty of shit to discuss!  I don’t mind interviews at all, and the current promo has been fine.
So,  Knockin’ Boots...

The big challenge was to avoid the pitfalls of the conventional dance album.  It’s so easy to fall into the trap of releasing a collection of singles.  I was also driven by past experiences to create something fully-rounded.  There was a lot of pre-imagined opinion around the release of my track ‘Duccy’, for example; a lot of negative reaction.  The album is an opportunity to provide a fuller picture of who I am.  It took three-and-a-half years to make.  There were points at which I could have released it before but I wanted to release it in the right climate.  It’s a diverse project; it shows the diversity of house music and avoids pigeon holes.  There’s a better climate for this sort of record today.

You’ve involved a fantastic line-up of guests and collaborators...

Yes, building relationships is really important I think.  The new single ‘Holding On’ features vocalist Sam Dew [a deliciously summery sophisti-slice of looped disco].  The album also features the likes of Bixby, Seven Davis Jr, J’Danna and Julie Mendoza.  I’ve learned a lot recording it.

How exactly would you say your house sound has evolved?

I have always moved around with the house music I make.  Now, my sound is in the place I always wanted it to be in.  There are hints of early Roulé as well as of early Chicago - but not just Larry Heard; I mean the sorts of Chicago artists that inspired a lot of that early French house music... artists like Glenn Underground for example.

On to Ibiza.... You’re DJing for Defected a bit this summer – both Glitterbox and Defected In The House.

I didn’t fall in love with Ibiza immediately.  I’ve grown to love it.  Last year I played at Space [home to Glitterbox this year] and started to embrace things there.  It’s the same with Amnesia [current home to Defected In The House, where Bashmore has already played two dates over June and July].  Having done so many gigs and festivals in places like the US where the soundsystems are so poor it’s actually a joy coming to Ibiza now.  The soundsystems in clubs like Space and Amnesia are incredible; and then the crowds are really good...there’s a great spirit.  Experiences like that help me become a better DJ, without doubt.

What do you like to play on?

It’s basically a pair of [Technics] 1210s, some CDJs and a mixer with shit loads of delay effects.  I also need a huge monitor as I’m going a little deaf!

Seriously?

It’s actually not a big deal now.  But there was one point a while back when my ears were still ringing two weeks after a gig and I was like ‘what the fuck is happening?!’  I play it safe now.  Things have gotten a lot better.  I use ear plugs and ensure I have the right set-up in the studio.  To be honest, artists often develop hearing problems in the studio rather than the club... you’re in that environment so much.  So it’s just important to be safe with everything.

What’s happening with Broadwalk?

It’s onwards and upwards.  I didn’t want to set up one of those labels that just picks up tracks from Soundcloud.  I don’t like that.  I’m not even sure that those labels actually speak to the artists or anything.  I’ve always admired labels that listen to their artists and nurture their talent.  They’re the labels I love.  I’ve tried to do the same thing with Broadwalk.  I’m about building lasting relationships.  Ideally I’d like to be releasing three or four records per year with an artist and putting out collaborations too.  But I can’t complain, I’m happy with the progress the label is making.

Where does Julio Bashmore head in the long-term?

I’ve learned a few valuable things over the past few years – mainly, it’s important to keep building relationships in the future.  There are a lot of challenges in our industry so being able to trust good people around you is essential to your continuation.  Right now though I’m concentrating on the new album and looking forward to its release.  I’m feeling good about it and what it says about my music.  Albums are always great things to make.  There’s a lot of focus on tracks these days but the album format allows you to fully express yourself.  I grew up listening to the albums of artists I loved so I was always going to aspire to making albums myself.  It makes total sense.

Glitterbox: the rumors have been confirmed

32 Gbox Gallery web56 Gbox Gallery web65 Gbox Gallery web79 Gbox Gallery web

After only three parties of Glitterbox’s 2015 season, word is quickly spreading that there’s something a little bit special happening at Space Ibiza.

The island’s media have been overwhelmingly positive in their appraisal so far, so expectations remain high. Pulse said the opening was “easily one of the most genuinely fun times we’ve had” while Ibiza Voice predicted that “this might just be the start of something rather special.” So it was with more than a little excitement that we tripped down to Space on Friday night, to engulf ourselves in the latest party extravaganza the Glitterbox crew had crafted.

It was the influence of his elder brothers that informed the musical direction of Thibaut Berland aka Breakbot, who exposed him to the soul, funk and pop of Michael Jackson, Prince, Stevie Wonder and many more. Opening the Terrace, these influences were only too apparent and he laid on the disco edits thick and fast, creating a shimmering atmosphere inside the club. He’s previously described himself as “a dude in a basement looking for melodies”, but he looked equally at home here, bopping happily away behind his laptop setup, and giving the amassing crowd a warm smile as he moved through an exquisite set that included his own ‘Baby I’m Yours’.

With Ron Basejam and Mr. Doris keeping things rocking on the Sunset Terrace, the scene was well and truly set for Todd Terry to take centre stage. A Grammy Award nominated DJ and producer Todd Terry has been engulfed in dance music for more than 20 years, and is undoubtedly one of the most celebrated house artists of all time. His set wasn't disappointing, mixing many great house records that turned the terrace of the club upside down.

What Glitterbox manages to do exceptionally well is mix the musically new and the old into a current and relevant blend. Never straying too far into the commercial or the underground, Glitterbox appeals to those with broad but tasteful musical preferences and as such attracts a diverse crowd, even by Ibiza’s colourful standards.

Closing out the Terrace, Smokin Jo is a true Ibiza veteran, having first played on the island 22 years ago when club culture hadn’t yet fully taken hold. That wealth of experience was evident in her musical selections. As Jo lived up to her recent assertion that “Glitterbox is all about having freedom and choice with the music”. The fun behind the decks readily translated to the dancefloor, with a loyal faithful staying rapturous until the very last beat was dropped.

Glitterbox continues to weave its magic on the island.

As shown by the partnership with Space Ibiza (the island’s most iconic club with an unparalleled musical history), creative collaboration - and fun – is at Glitterbox’s heart. Overseen by Glitterbox Creative Director, Mark Herman, this year brings new creative elements to the event including the artist, TradeMark, who designed the season’s artwork, whilst masterminding the performance side, club collective “Savage” will consist of three different dance crews (Sink The Pink, Hot Heels & Nutbags) who will all bring their own unique energy to the night.

TradeMark, aka UK artist, Mark Wardel, is the renowned painter whose figurative work explores the interface between art, commerce, and desire. After finishing art school, he became known as the “court painter” of the Blitz and other London café society hang outs, producing portraits of Boy George, Steve Strange, and Japan’s David Sylvian. Wardel’s artworks are in the collections of Kanye West and Naomi Campbell, and his work has been featured in GQ Style, Dazed and Confused, iD, and beyond. In 2013, he produced a sell-out edition of 300 Bowie-silver Duke life mask sculptures for the V&A museum, as part of the David Bowie Is exhibition, of which Bowie himself purchased two.

“Savage” is produced by East Creative Agency, the team behind some of London’s most outrageous club nights and events – including Sink The Pink and XOYO’s Gloria’s. They’ll be bringing their East London performers, choreographers, and costume designers to Glitterbox, bringing the finest dancers, drag queens and club kids together to celebrate fashion, decadence, self-expression and hedonism - all to the best soundtrack on the island. Jono Kitchens of Hot Heels will choreograph performances, with costumes designed by Jay Barry Mathews.

Glitterbox’s opening party takes place on Friday 12 June, featuring Todd Terry, Joey Negro, Horse Meat Disco, The Revenge and Simon Dunmore, joined by unique performers from dance crews hosted by “Savage”. Further details will be announced soon.

part1

After the great success last year, Kehakuma and elrow Ibiza are joining forces again every Saturday from 6th June until 26th September at Space Ibiza. Kehakuma will host the Terrace introducing deep changes for this brand new season, aiming for a more aggressive image and first quality artists. In the room next door, elrow Ibiza will again turn the Main Room upside down every Saturday, presenting a new theme party to its crazy nights: From Lost To The River.

Kehakuma presents a new season with Josh Wink and Steve Bug

One of the most established parties of the electronic music scene in Ibiza confirms the renewal of Saturdays at Space Ibiza. The season will run from June 6th until September 26th and in anticipation, Kehakuma confirms four dates for its 2015 season with two key figures of the industry: Josh Wink and Steve Bug special b2b sets.

The aesthetics of Kehakuma remain as one of the most guarded parts of the project, ranging from sensual geishas to the fragile evolution of a butterfly converted into origami, minimalistic oriental elements and imagery is carefully selected.

Staying connected and true to Japan, also known as the land of the rising sun, a touch of lava red runs like a common thread through the years of Kehakuma's metamorphosis.

This years' edition will feature the iconic Japanese Macaque monkey with its distinctive red face. Just like the Macaque's temper being contentious at times, Kehakuma will take on a more aggressive course this year, hitting the island with a renewed set of artists, but undaunted in concept: offering the public the real agitators of House and Techno worldwide, just as demonstrated by the heads of Poker Flat and Ovum Recordings, two labels that have had a remarkable influence in the history of electronic music.

Josh Wink is one of the regulars at major music events. Originally from Philadelphia and going strong for over 25 years, he has been one of the pioneers of acid sound, followed by the success of productions that crossed boundaries, such as "Don't Laugh", "I'm Ready" and "Higher State of Consciousness".

His Kehakuma dance partner will be Steve Bug, one of the driving forces behind the "sound of Berlin", always halfway between Minimal, House and Techno. Steve, who was one of the headliners of the past Kehakuma Closing, manages Poker Flat Records since 1998, an essential label found in every acclaimed DJ's collection. From its main label evolved Audimatique, Dessous and Traffic Signs.

Experience, knowledge and musical understanding from these two great artists is being expected as a small appetizer to what will be a flavourful 2015 season full of House and Techno.
