Space Menorca will open its doors in mid June 2012 to become the group’s second franchise worldwide after Space Sharm (Sharm el Sheik, Egypt). The opening is part of a new era of Space Ibiza, with new franchises envisaged to be opened in Brazil and Dubai also. The club, with planned capacity for 600 people, will be located in the harbour of Ciutadella. Once construction is completed, the club will have an area of 850m2, including two outdoor terraces. The DJs lined up for this summer are international artists to be announced soon. The opening of the Space Menorca franchise hopes to bring a new concept of quality nightlife to the island. The club is estimated to open mid June and it will be the second global franchise of Space Ibiza, considered the best club in the world. Construction work began last summer and is presently in its final stage. As at Space Ibiza, music will be the key element. “Space Menorca is similar to Space Ibiza in the quality of the musical product: both in terms of the sound system and of the artists’ performance” explained the director of the Menorcan club, Nico Vilà. With this in mind and aiming to offer the most sophisticated sound, the club has been equipped with one of the most powerful and best reputed sound systems on the market, developed by Funktion One especially for Space Menorca. Other details of Space Ibiza, such as the Martin lighting with LED technology or videomapping have also been exported to Space Menorca.
The DJ’s set to play have yet to be confirmed but they will be prominent names from the electronic music scene. “The line-up is closing. There will be world famous artists. And every day there will be an international guest DJ, as well as the residents of the club and the various parties”. For the most part, they will be national DJs but there will also be DJs with an international track-record, always in the house and electro scene.
Despite similarities with Space Ibiza, Space Menorca will have its own personality adapted to the island’s characteristics. Since the tourist season in Menorca is somewhat shorter than in Ibiza, the club is expected to present its main parties, the Opening and Closing, after and before respectively, those of Space Ibiza.
The club will be located in 1000m2 building in the Pla de Sant Joan, a former orchard garden in the emblematic port of Ciutadella. The club will be fully integrated into the surrounding space, as the exterior aesthetics of the building have not be changed, but rather have been restored respecting the ancient setting of the tower, arches, and vaulted spaces. The gardens and original irrigation channels will also be preserved. Here lies the project’s charm: in the combination of the rustic Menorcan exteriors with a minimalist, Mediterranean room that will have much in common with the famous room El Salón and the Terrace in Space Ibiza. Another example of respect for local aesthetics is the use of Menorcan dry stone and the typical chairs from the island called “Cocarrossas”. The club itself will have about 850m2 available for its activity. Inside, the space is divided into three areas: two terraces on two levels and an indoor room dedicated to dance music. In total there will be four bars, dressing rooms, VIP areas and a public car park of over 5000m2. On the two chill-out style outdoor terraces, of 200m2 and 3000m2, you can enjoy a drink in a more relaxed atmosphere, decorated with a mixture of Indonesian and Menorcan furniture.
The club will only open in summer, with possibly openings in wintertime to host specific events. During the first stage of operation, between bartenders, security staff, office administration staff and cleaning staff, Space Menorca will employ over 40 people. Occasionally there will be performances by dancers and other artists from Space Ibiza. The exact date of the opening will be announced shortly on the Space Ibiza website www.spaceibiza.com The opening of Space Menorca coincides with the new phase of expansion of the world’s best club, Space Ibiza. The next official openings will be Space B.Camboriú, in Brazil, and Space Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates.
